About Sugar Bowl Ski Resort

The Rental/Retail Manager is responsible for all resort rental, retail and repair locations, hiring, training, budget performance, inventory controls and buying duties. Each of these departments relies heavily on “selling” processes, employee knowledge and technology (point of sale setup and administration).  It is our goal to have a highly trained, versatile sales force that can be used by different indoor departments depending on the business need of the moment.  We desire to create consistent guest treatment and employee knowledge across these indoor departments. This position will be responsible for recruiting, staffing, and training employees. 



  • At least five years rental/retail experience
  • Experience successfully leading teams, projects and employee performance management
  • Prior knowledge of current inventory control systems. RTP knowledge a plus
  • Previous experience as a buyer for retail/rental related activities
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and speak English
  • Detail oriented



  • Hire, train and continually conduct employee performance management for the Rental, Retail and Repair teams.
  • Oversee daily operations of Rental, Retail and Repair including but not limited to; scheduling, timekeeping, training, opening & closing procedures, rental presets, rental equipment testing, regulating discounts, sales contests and merchandising.
  • Manage and audit the compliance all of rental and demo paperwork processes and paperwork.
  • Maintain inventory by complying with open-to-buy and leveraging vendor relationships.
  • Manage all controllable costs to keep operations profitable.
  • Remain current on new industry products and trends and demonstrate knowledge of products.
  • Provide training to improve the knowledge base of the staff and utilize cross-training methods to maintain productivity when employees are absent.
  • Conduct daily game planning meetings with entire team.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings with all employees under your supervision.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Finance, Marketing and Group Sales.
  • Utilize existing RTP resources to update an RTP POS training manual.
  • Utilize RTP reports to determine productivity and maximize revenue. Set and measure KPIs such as average dollars/transactions, revenue per rental unit, fleet utilization, rental returns and overdue charges, retail sell-through, recommendation of markdowns and reorders.
  • Implement inventory procedures and loss prevention policy and practices.
  • Conduct cycle counts, inventory procedures and loss prevention policy and practices.
  • Develop a weekly “want list” procedure to effectively transfer goods between stores and reorder commodity items.
  • Quickly and effectively, solve guest inquiries and use best judgment to escalate unresolved guest issues to VP Operations in a timely manner.
  • Audit and reconcile daily close reports.
  • Monitor and maintain quality and appearance of Rental, Retail and Repair facilities.
  • Embrace, promote and comply with Sugar Bowl’s mission, values, and policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work holiday periods and weekends.
  • Occasionally serve in the role of the Judah Base Lodge Manager coordinating all resources to ensure we are providing a high level of customer service.
  • Conduct snow removal for store locations.
  • Meet Authorized Driver and Background Check requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Additional responsibilities include working independent from the VP Operations. You must be able to develop and implement the operation plan for rental. Be up to date on equipment trends, manage significant company assets (inventory), and have significant decision-making responsibilities.
